These hard shell clams are the traditional East Coast mercenaria or quahog species, with a delicious, mildly sweet flavor with a briny accent. They are 1-1/2 to 2 inches in size across the hinge (referred to as middlenecks). Cultivated and harvested by the watermen of Cedar Key, Florida, clams are quick-cooked in their shell, individually quick frozen and vacuum-sealed by the dozen in a convenient boil-in-bag. By boiling in the bag, it retains the sensational juice that can be utilized into a broth. They arrive to your doorstep frozen, convenient, and ready to be heated and served in minutes.

To prepare, simply boil or steam the clams - in the bag is easiest - for 5-6 minutes and they are ready to serve. You can also add them into your favorite pasta dish, bake them as clams casino, or add them to your chowder recipe. Do not thaw clams prior to cooking.

Each order comes with a simple cooking instruction card for reference features 12 clams per bag.

Shipping for Frozen Items

Shipping is free on orders over $100. We will ship your package via UPS/FedEx Ground*, unless your location is west coast in which case we will automatically ship Express for a 2 to 3 day Transit. Your package will take 1 to 3 days to arrive to you once it is shipped. We do not ship across weekends because shipping time extends past the effectiveness of dry ice.

Orders placed on Monday will ship same day if placed before 8:00 AM ET.
Orders placed on Tuesday thru Wednesday will ship same day if placed before 12pm ET.
Orders placed after 12pm ET Tuesday will be shipped the following day.
Orders placed on Wednesday after 12pm thru Sunday will ship Monday, with the following exception:
Orders placed on Wednesday thru Thursday before 12pm within (NC, SC & VA only) will ship same day, since delivery takes one day.

We are unable to ship to PO boxes or FPO or APO addresses. Currently we are able to ship only to continental US addresses.

Requested Delivery Dates

You may request or schedule a delivery date in the future and we will do our best to accommodate the requested date. However, please note that certain dates may be impossible to accommodate depending on your area, day of the week, weather, and carrier delivery schedule. E.g: Orders requested for Monday delivery could be delivered the Friday before or on a later day of the requested week.

Shipping Tinned Fish

To prevent damage during transit, tinned items will always ship separately from frozen items. Tinned items will ship with FedEx Ground economy and may take up to 7 business days for delivery.

Storage

Seafood ordered from Sizzlefish should be kept frozen until ready for preparation. Items can be stored frozen for up to 12 months, but are best if consumed within 6 months of purchase.

Cooking Instructions:

To prepare, simply boil or steam them - in the bag is easiest - for 5-6 minutes and they are ready to serve. Do not thaw them prior to cooking.

Note:

It is normal for our mussels & clams to open slightly during the freezing process. They are flash-frozen immediately after being harvested while still alive. The freezing process relaxes the muscle that keeps the shell closed. As a result, the shells may not stay tightly shut the way live mollusks do.

Delicious & Super Easy to Cook!

"These clams are the perfect size and easy to cook right in the bag. They are also delicious and nicely sweet - they have lovely flavor. The reason I gave the claims 4 stars instead of 5 is (1) there was a little sand (not much though so these clams still make for a completely wonderful dish), (2) a couple of the shells were broken (but easy to pick broken pieces out after cooking in the bag before adding to white wine broth), and (3) the Sizzlefish preparation time of boiling or steaming 5-6 minutes was just a tad too much. I cooked the mussels in the bag in slowly boiling water for 5 minutes. They were really good and tender, but I think they could be even more tender with slightly less cook time - like 4-4. 5 minutes."

What are the best options for thawing and heating the clams? I will probably make a linguine clam sauce.: Hi Joyce, Thanks for contacting us. You can actually cook the clams right in the bag frozen! Simply place bag in boiling water and boil for approximatley 5 minutes or until clams begin to open! Enjoy! You can also remove from bag if desired. Cooking in the bag enhances the flavor and leaves all the goodness from the juices!
