Scallop Fritters
Scallop fritters are a tasty way to transform tender sea scallops into a crispy and savory seafood dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer or a meal. Scallop fritters are a mixture of finely chopped scallops and other simple ingredients that produce a batter that fries up crispy and golden brown on the outside while remaining tender and flavorful on the inside. The natural sweetness of the scallops is evident in every bite, balanced by savory seasonings and a delicate crunch.
One of the major attractions of scallop fritters is that they can be easily made at home. A basic mixture of flour, eggs, herbs, and seasonings is used to create a light batter that binds everything together. The mixture is dropped into the hot oil and immediately puffs up, becoming crispy on the outside while the scallops cook inside, remaining moist and tender.
Scallop fritters are often accompanied by dipping sauce, fresh herbs, or lemon juice to add more brightness. The dish is perfect for parties, seafood appetizers, or an evening meal paired with a simple salad or side dish. Scallop fritters are an easy dish that can be made at home using simple steps and ingredients, creating a restaurant-quality seafood dish at home.
Why This Scallop Fritters Recipe Works
This scallop fritters recipe works because it balances the texture of the scallops with the light and crispy batter that coats the seafood. The scallops are chopped into small pieces, ensuring that they are evenly distributed throughout the fritters and cooked quickly, so every bite contains tender seafood and crisp golden edges.
Another reason why the scallop fritters recipe is successful is that the fritters are cooked at the right temperature. The hot oil ensures that the fritters are crispy on the outside, and at the same time, the batter does not become greasy. This results in fritters that are light, crispy, and flavorful.
Finally, this recipe is simple. The scallops have a naturally sweet and delicate flavor, and the other ingredients, such as garlic, herbs, lemon, and salt, enhance the seafood's flavor. The scallop fritters are therefore well-balanced, fresh, and satisfying.
Try This Recipe with Sizzlefish Sea Scallops
Sea scallops are particularly well-suited for recipes like scallop fritters, where simple ingredients and fast cooking help bring out the natural taste and texture of the seafood. A good scallop is firm in texture, slightly sweet in taste, and of uniform size in order to cook consistently when chopped and mixed with the fritter batter. When fried, scallops are tender and moist while the batter turns crispy and golden, providing the perfect combination of texture and flavor in each bite.
The mild sweetness and tender texture of scallops make them a great pairing for savory ingredients like garlic, herbs, lemon, and mild seasonings commonly used in fritter recipes. Because scallops cook fast, they remain tender inside while absorbing the taste of the fritter and the seasonings surrounding them. These make scallops a versatile seafood ingredient that can be used in everything from simple appetizers to hearty dinners.
At Sizzlefish, Wild Sea Scallops are carefully selected, portioned, and flash-frozen to help preserve the taste and texture of the scallops. Having the right scallops on hand makes it easy to prepare scallop fritters whenever you crave a delicious seafood dish at home.
Scallop Fritters Nutrition Highlights

Ingredients
-
4 portions Sizzlefish scallops, thawed
-
1 cup frozen corn, thawed
-
¼ cup chopped green onions
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
¼ cup cornmeal
-
1 tsp dried thyme
-
½ tsp smoked paprika
-
½ tsp garlic powder
-
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
-
½ tsp baking powder
-
1 ½ tsp salt
-
1 large egg
-
2/3 cup whole milk
-
Lemon wedges for serving
Directions
Preheat oven to 250ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Rinse scallops under cool water and blot dry with paper towel. Chop scallops into all pieces.
Add scallops to a large mixing bowl with corn and green onions. In a separate medium bowl, stir together flour, cornmeal, smoked paprika, garlic powder, thyme, cayenne pepper, baking powder and salt.
Make a well in flour mixture and add egg and milk. Stir well to create a batter. Stir batter into bowl with scallops and thoroughly mix.
Add 1-2 inches of oil to a deep stainless-steel skillet and heat to 350F. Once oil is hot, use a spoon to scoop batter and a second spoon to gently push batter into oil working in batches of 4. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side. Using a slotted spoon, transfer fritters to a paper towel lined plate to soak up oil.
Once you have made 12 fritters, transfer to baking sheet and place in oven to keep warm. Continue with remaining batter, adding extra oil if needed. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
Recipe Note
Pro tip: Allow the fritters to rest on a paper towel-lined plate for a minute before serving to remove excess oil and maintain their crispy texture.
