How to Assemble Your Maine Style Lobster Rolls
1. Toast the buns – because texture is everything. Don’t skip this step—those crisp, buttery edges are what set a true New England-style lobster roll apart. Let the buns cool for a minute or two after baking; you want them warm but not so hot that they wilt the lettuce or overheat the lobster salad.
2. Mix up the lobster filling – the heart of the roll. This creamy base is classic and light—the lemon brightens everything up and cuts through the richness of the mayonnaise. Next, add ½ to 1 full packet of the lobster roll seasoning that comes with the kit. Start with half if you like a more subtle flavor or go all in for a bolder flavor. The seasoning is perfectly balanced for lobster, so you really can’t go wrong. Once the dressing is smooth, fold in your thawed lobster meat and chopped celery. The celery adds a fresh crunch and a nice contrast to the tender lobster.
3. Build your rolls – simple but thoughtfully layered. Now it’s time to assemble! line each bun with a couple of baby butter lettuce leaves. This is optional, but it adds a light crunch and helps keep the bun from getting soggy. Spoon a generous portion of the lobster mixture into each bun. Don’t be shy—these are meant to be overflowing with lobster goodness.
4. Serve right away – fresh is best.
These lobster rolls are meant to be eaten fresh, while the buns are warm and the filling is chilled and flavorful. Serve them up with classic sides like kettle chips, coleslaw, lemon wedges, or even a cold beer or glass of white wine.
