How to Steam Snow Crab Legs
Steaming is an excellent way to reheat snow crab legs when you want to keep their sweet, delicate, and fresh ocean finish. Snow crab legs are already cooked, and steaming does nothing more than reheat the meat, making it moist and easy to extract from the shell. In fact, steaming is a good way to prepare snow crab legs if you want to save their fresh, inherent flavor without using seasonings and oils. Steaming snow crab legs gets the job done very quickly, and this technique works all year round for any occasion, whether a simple weeknight meal or an occasion involving family and friends.
Why Steaming Is the Best Way to Cook Snow Crab Legs
Steaming is considered the best way to cook snow crab legs, as it gently reheats the crab without compromising its flavor and texture. Most snow crab legs are already fully cooked when they are sold; the only thing left to do is to warm them, rather than cook them. Steaming is one of the best ways to do this, as it uses moist heat to warm the crab without drying it out, ensuring that it remains juicy, tender, and easy to separate from its shells.
Steaming is also considered one of the best ways to prepare snow crab legs because it brings out the crab's natural sweetness. Because the legs are not submerged in water, their flavor is not diluted the same way when boiling. The steam gently heats up the crab, ensuring that it remains moist, juicy, and retains its ocean flavor.
This method is also one of the quickest and most reliable ways to cook snow crab legs. The entire cooking time is usually just a few minutes, an easy cooking technique that is perfect not just for weeknight dinners but also for special occasions. Steaming requires minimal equipment and preparation time, making it an easy and surefire way to have deliciously cooked crab legs every time.

Snow crab legs are particularly well-suited for simple cooking methods like steaming, where the gentle heat can help highlight the natural flavor and texture of the crab. Good snow crab legs will have firm shells and sweet, delicate meat that easily separates when heated. Since most snow crab legs are pre-cooked shortly after harvest, steaming allows the legs to reheat evenly without sacrificing their tender texture and light ocean flavor.
The natural sweetness and light briny flavor of the snow crab are also well-suited for classic accompaniments like melted butter, lemon wedges, and simple seasonings. The meat's quick cooking time also means that steaming helps the legs retain moisture and maintain their soft, flaky texture. Snow crab legs are an excellent choice for everything from simple seafood meals to special occasions where simple preparation allows the seafood itself to shine.
At Sizzlefish, Snow Crab Legs are carefully selected and flash frozen to help preserve their flavor and texture. Having good-quality snow crab legs on hand makes it easy to prepare meals like steamed crab legs whenever you feel like having a savory seafood dish at home.
